As a big fan of the Foo Fighters and goofball horror comedies, I am admittedly an easy mark for this, but fuck it, this is a fun movie! I was expecting something like the Tenacious D movie, but it’s more like Scooby Doo meets The Evil Dead. It’s funny but not really a spoof, as it plays the story as fairly straight horror comedy most of the time. As expected, the Foo Fighters are not master thespians but very likable and it’s all very amiable and good silly fun, with some outrageous gore moments (the cymbal!) If the film has any significant problem, it’s that it goes on about ten minutes longer than it should, not knowing quite when to end. But I can handle that! A week ago I wrote in my rewatch review for Demon Knight that it’s hard to imagine such a silly, cheerfully cheesy low-budget horror movie in multiplexes in these days of buzzkill A24 horror, but here we are! Happy that the types of horror movies that give me Night of the Demons / Idle Hands vibes might be making a small comeback? Pearl Jam high five!
