I don’t use the word “delightful” very often, but there’s no better way to describe Saoirse Ronan and Sam Rockwell in this movie. They’re delightful. Confess, Fletch yesterday and now this one. Two low-key, laid-back, entertaining “we’re not trying to change the world here” moderately budgeted whodunnits in a row, and both of them quite enjoyable and a welcome break from the usual multiplex fare. I’d give this one the slight edge because I like the structure and the period details, and it made me laugh harder and more often. And those delightful lead performances! I wish Kenneth Branagh’s overblown and overwrought Agatha Christie adaptations had more of this film’s easygoing charm.
